The Viability of Vibrio Choleræ in Natural Waters

چکیده
Workers who have examined the viability of Vibrio cholera? in water are agreed that whereas the vibrio can live for a short time in untreated natural waters, it survives for longer periods in samples that had been previously boiled. Hankin (1896) attributed the bactericidal effect to the acid reaction of the river waters. d'Herelle (1926) suggested that the disappearance of vibrios from natural waters was due to the presence of specific choleraphage present in these waters. Later, experimental data of d'Herelle, Malone and Lahiri (1930) did not support this opinion. These workers examined the viability of cholera vibrios in waters collected from

Vibrio Choleræ and Other Vibrios. (Observations on 'Water Vibrios', with Special Reference to Their Variation during Storage in Culture Medium and Possible Relationship to Vibrio Choleræ)
Tomb and Maitra (1926) as a result of their investigations concluded that the agglutinable vibrio found in the dejecta of cholera patients, and the non-agglutinable vibrio found in carriers and in natural waters contaminated with human faeces are one and the same organism. They arrived at this conclusion after inseminating tanks* with fresh cholera stools containing large numbers of agglutinabl...

This study was carried out to investigate the occurrence of potentially pathogenic species of vibrio in sea water and estuarine environments of the Caspian Sea in the Golestan province of Iran. A total of 127 water samples from coastal waters as well as from river and estuaries were collected and analyzed by culture, during April and September 2001. Following prompt centrifugation, the resusp...
متن کاملThe Isolation of Vibrio choleræ from Non-Cholera Individuals
Although there are many records 01 the finding of vibrios in the stools of healthy individuals, there is no means of establishing whether the strains isolated were those conforming to the vibrio now generally accepted as Vibrio cholerce. Recent work on the antigenic structure of vibrios has shown that V. cholerce possesses a specific ' 0 ' antigen and that the thermo-labile ' H ' antigen is sha...
متن کاملThe effect of ZnO nanoparticles on the Vibrio species isolated from coastal water of the Persian Gulf port
Introduction: Using zinc oxide nanoparticles, as a catalyst removal of fecal pollution indicator bacteria in water, has been studied as a model of bacterial contamination. This study aims to determine the toxicity and selection of appropriate indicators to evaluate the toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles on the isolated bacteria Vibrio species of Bushehr coastal waters. Methods: In this experi...
